The Writing Center: How It Works
Mr. Dwight A. Lindley III
Adjunct Instructor of English and Writing Lab Director
Writing Center: Braniff 304

The Writing Center is located in Braniff 304 and offers individual 30-minute tutoring
sessions for UD students working on essays, regardless of the subject or the
student's writing abilities. Although we take time to identify mechanical errors
in each draft, we count on the student to correct each error throughout the essay.
That is to say, our tutors are teachers, not proofreaders. More importantly,
we spend the bulk of each session in conversation with you, discussing what's
convincing and what's lacking in your argument, what works and what might be
adjusted in your essay's organization. After each session, the tutor sends a
Writing Lab Report [LINK TO PDF OF REPORT] to the professor who assigned the
essay, articulating both the student's successes in invention, organization and
style, and the tutor's suggestions for improvement.
The Writing Center is open Sunday through Friday with appointments available as early
as 10:00am and as late as 10:00pm. A tutoring session may be reserved by signing
up for an appointment outside the Center in Braniff 304. Walk-ins are also welcome
as time allows. For more information, please be free to contact Mr. Lindley at
972-721-4066.
Finally, it would be a great help to our tutors if you would come to each session
with a copy of the writing assignment, a typed (or at least legible) draft, and
the text about which you are writing. If you are going to be late or need to
speak with a tutor, call 972-721-4066 during our hours of operation.
The Writing Center is open Sunday through Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters
